Quick Search

Quick Search is the fastest way to find a contact or conversation in MessageDesk. It lives in the top nav bar on desktop and is built for keyboard-first navigation.
Quick Search is desktop-only. On mobile and tablet, tap the search icon near the account settings icon to open Advanced Search directly.
You have two ways to open Quick Search on desktop:
  • Press ⌘K (macOS) or Ctrl K (Windows/Linux) from anywhere in the app.
  • Click the search bar in the top nav.

What Quick Search covers

Quick Search returns results for two item types:
  • Contacts: saved contact records in your workspace
  • Conversations: text threads in your inbox
Messages and comments aren’t in Quick Search results. To search by message content, comment content, or labels, use Advanced Search.
Search isn’t scoped by the phone line you’re viewing. Quick Search always runs across every conversation you have access to, no matter which phone line is selected in the Inbox side nav. To narrow the Inbox itself to a single line, use the side nav or the Inbox Workspace phone filter. See Filter by phone line below.

Filter by phone line

Quick Search doesn’t have a per-phone-line filter today. To work in the context of a single line, scope the Inbox first:
  • Inbox side nav. Click a specific phone line to see only conversations on that number.
  • Inbox Filter. Click the Filter icon, pick Workspace phone, and select one or more numbers. See Filter & sort conversations for details.
When you open a conversation from a search result, its phone line is shown on the conversation’s label in the Inbox list and in Conversation details.

Recent conversations

Before you type anything, Quick Search shows your recent conversations so you can jump back to a thread you were just in. No query required.
  • ↑ / ↓: move between results
  • Enter: select the highlighted result
Selecting a result with Enter opens Advanced Search at that result. From there you can apply per-type filters.
At the bottom of the Quick Search results dropdown, click Open Advanced Search to run your current query in Advanced Search. Use it when you want to search messages, comments, or labels, or apply per-type filters. You can also click the search icon next to any Quick Search result to jump straight into Advanced Search at that result.
